As part of our trip to the United Nations, Big Ocean Board Member Dana Robb met Dianah Wanjiku Kamande, who is the founder of Come Together Widows and Orphans Organization (CTWOO). She is a widow and widow leader and a mother of two girls. Dianah lost her husband on April 19, 2013. He died after severely wounding Dianah and threatening to kill their two children.
Dianah has publicized the overwhelming and devastating violence and abuse that is experienced by widows and their children in Kenya following the death of their husbands and fathers. Come Together Widows and Orphans Organization is an NGO championing widows’ rights in Kenya and working to develop the first National Action Plan for Widows. Dianah has chosen to forgive and to use her experience to help those around her. Because of this choice, she has inspired hundreds of widows and orphans in Kenya. As part of her ongoing service, she has adopted over 20 orphans who live with her. She has taken them to school with the help of supporters and well-wishers.
