I met Dayo Benjamins-Laniyi, on my first day at the Conference on the Status of Women, at the UN this year. Her first name, Adedayo, meaning “the crown that brings joy to the community”, and she certainly lives up to her name. She treats everyone as if they are the most important person in the world to her.
Dayo, along with her husband set up DOXA DIGITAL, it is the foremost performance audio company in the Nigeria, serving international and national events throughout the year. She is the first female entrepreneur in professional sound reinforcement in Nigeria. Dayo is a mother of four and still makes time to take on her responsibilities as a Pastor. She counsels, prays for, and visits those in need of support.
Dayo attended the Big Ocean Women presentation. During the presentation, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were asked by a speaker to repeat their Young Women’s theme. As the group finished the theme, Dayo expressed how profound those words were. They are a gift, and not to ever take them for granted and to use them to make a difference in the world. You can see the video here.
Earlier in the week Dayo shared her favorite quote with me:
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
Henry David Thoreau.
