We started the Cottage Industry feature last year to highlight the “industry” or work done in our various cottages. Cottages, for those new to Big Ocean, are groups of women who gather in their neighborhoods to inspire, inform, stand, serve, and report as they support each other in their maternal feminist beliefs.

This month we highlight our virtual cottage. For women who don’t have a local cottage nearby and don’t feel ready to begin one, for those whose schedule doesn’t allow face-to-face attendance, and for those who would love to mingle online with like-minded women around the world, the virtual cottage offers a perfect place you can call home. The photos above show Cherilyn, who attended a virtual cottage meeting and shared her commitment to protect life from the womb to the tomb.
The virtual cottage is held twice a month using Zoom, which is now a household word with the advent of social distancing for COVID-19. Big Ocean’s choice to use this meeting format for the past few years has proved to be inspired as well as inspiring.

For dates and times, check the monthly newsletter, our Facebook page, or homepage. In May, the meetings will be Wednesday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m. MDT and Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. MDT. No need to register in advance. Simply use this link https://zoom.us/j/294590701 to join the meeting and make yourself at home.
We also invite each of you to subscribe to our monthly email, Big Ocean Women Connections. Use this link to receive updates and news in your inbox on the first day of each month. https://www.bigoceanwomen.org/get-involved/subscribe/

Kalisa Jensen from our cottage committee recently outlined the purpose and format of the virtual cottage meeting at our “Many Waves One Ocean Summit” held last month. She explained it is an opportunity to meet more Big Ocean members and leaders, discuss the monthly tenet, explore ways you can serve individually from your home and community, and get updates and news. We hope to “see” you at a virtual meeting soon.
We also welcome the many new leaders who have recently founded cottages or are in the process of doing so. We are passionate about the waves of goodness that begin in individual cottages. Members of one new cottage near St. George, Utah, held their first cottage meeting and made surgical masks that were sent to Atlanta. Please watch for spotlights in upcoming newsletters introducing this and other cottages and their powerful industry.
