We Will Overcome! Stories of How Immigrant and Refugee Families are Finding Success
Uprooted from their homes and familiar places, immigrant and refugee individuals face distinct challenges today. Despite their challenges and hardships, there is a common denominator for their economic, educational, and community integration and engagement success – the family!
Join us as we celebrate the many ways strong familial support and connection are ameliorating global challenges and successfully contributing to the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals.
From Roots to Branches: Care Work and the Power of the Maternal Economy
In many ways, society is like a tree. From everyday people to economic and political structures, we make up an integral part of a much greater collective system. And just like any tree, there is a wealth of nourishment and activity happening below the surface. At Big Ocean Women we recognize the value and wealth of social and economic contributions generated by mothers and caregivers. Through the lens of Maternal Feminism we discover a philosophical framework that places women and their creative and biological work at the center of social relevance. Once we’ve unearthed our collective roots and embraced our female power, we will more fully participate in all levels of civil society, which will greatly help in community and peace-building. Join us as we explore how this “maternal economy” is alive and well despite its being buried or hidden.
The Three Environments and Emerging Technologies that are Changing the World
Maintaining a healthy environment and protecting sustainable ecosystems is essential for our collective well-being. Join us as we share our Big Ocean Women philosophical framework of the Three Environments: the womb, the home, and the natural world. Through this lens we reinstate women and families as critical change agents within our global environmental discussions. When rooted in abundance and nonviolence, these fundamental ecosystems can birth transformative environmental successes. Moving beyond philosophy, our workshop will explore the creative contributions of leading enterprises as they pioneer emerging technologies to broaden the possibilities for sustainable living.
